I would like to know what is better.. IPB or vBulletin as I'm on my move to purchase another license. I currently have a vBulletin one, and not sure to get another one OR IPB.
Questions:- a) What is it like; security-wise? b) I heard that IPB customisation is a lot easier, is this true? c) Easier mananagement and use? d) Overall rating for both? e) Development, techical support, uprgades, fixes etc Also don't say to get this one because it's cheaper or to get this one just because you've got it yourself. I don't mind you recommend, but I'm mainly looking for advise. Thank you ![]() Karim |

Need a little help with vBulletin,
I am root admin and unable to post? What is this all about? This is what I mean by complications by vBulletin. I'm root admin, when posting my message it says it must be longer than 10 characters and it is longer... the wierd part is that, it's not saying the truth and that regular members and admins can post even if the characters are not longer than 10. None of the BB Codes aswell as smilies are 'clickable' that won't be displayed on the text field. If it's to do with the version or anything look at: http://www.team-300.net/forum/ |

With my recent experience with vBulletin, do you have the correct configuration set either within your usergroup options or your vBulletin options.
If you have created another usergroup and placed yourself in that as your primary usergroup then you may not have awarded that with admin permissions.

Well in my honest opinion vBulletin as the admin panel and features are much more easier to use than IPB. It's also more easily skinnable etc etc.

I don't like vB if I am honest.
When i goto a forum i like to be able to: view my posts (for replies) view unanswered posts view new posts By simply clicking on a link. vB doesn't have this whereas phpbb does! Gets my vote any day. I like smf also

![]() The great thing about vB is that its got a fantastic customisable base. You have a choice of integrated blogs, galleries, games arcades, link directories, the list is endless and if it doesn't do something out of the box, you sure will find something. Permissions can be a headache, but its worth it when you get the hang of it. Stick with vB and you wont go wrong. ![]() Last edited by optrex; 02-27-2008 at 12:33 PM. Reason: added image link |

That maybe so and maybe you can mod it no doubt, but as I mentioned phpbb has it as standard so gets my vote. I guess it is about what you get accustomed to. Since the early days i remember phpbb and invision, and all communities seemed to use one or the other.
Also phpbb is free which makes all the difference. ![]()

I am the second to vote for phpbb, it is good for startup, once you develop good community, you can easily shift to vBulletin.
