Default AVG Alternatives

You probably all know that AVG Free is ending in January but does anyone know of a good free alternative? And if you have a firewall, anti-spyware and check occasionally using Homecall or the equivalent do you even need an on-demand anti-virus?

Hey Kev, Run the AVG Free Edition 7.5 Setup program, it will update earlier version and it will remain free; ( I have updated my home PC and also added zone Alarm free version ) free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5

It's available for home/individual users, as per my knowledge it will not allow you to install the same on the server.

That means even if you are using windows 2003 server for individual purpose, you will not able to use this free edition.

BTW did you have any probs upgrading to 7.5?

If you are not able to use it then you can try "avast" too.

And I think it's good to have anti-virus installed on your system.

For a check you can use your system without AV for some days to give a trial. Let us know the results.

I didn't have a problem upgrading but one of my laptops was having a real problem updating the signatures. I wiped the HDD on that the other day though so the problem has now disappeared

No problem that hosing the harddrive won't solve.

LOL. All problems will disappear once you wipe out your HDD

It’s the easiest and effective way to get your machine out of any problem. For the HDD it’s like getting back
from rehabilitation.

Pain in the arse getting everything set back up just the way I want it though. And work Santa brought me a shiny new laptop as well so I also have to tweak that until I'm happy. Oh wait - tweaking kit makes me happy so all's good and Merry Christmas to me
