Having a professional facebook presence is very helpful for SEO. For this first of all you have to have your company's page where all the information about your company is mentioned. Then you can create pages for the various products, applications or services you offer; and then you can update them regularly with appropriate information. This is a quick and effective way of reaching your customers. If you have online blogs then you can also post their links on your wall for the reference of the customers.

Facebook being a social networking website can proove to be beneficial in SEO context. Facebook can be used in the following ways:

Branding - It can work as a great resource for generating brand awareness.
Reputation Management - can be a useful tool for measuring your reputation. You can check what users have to say about your brand.
Customer acquisition - New customers can be acquired with use of this social networking site.
Feedback - You can get feedback for the product/services that you offer and plan your strategies accordingly.

One of the most important benefit of having a professional profile on facebook is that it becomes easy for the company to connect with the users. If the company is coming up with any new product/service; they can start marketing on the facebook page and provide informative links.

Please follow Rachael's advice! Facebook pages created specifically for websites, companies, and individual products are free, easy, and effective. Just make sure to keep them updated to keep everyone interested. Once people "Like" your page, your updates will begin appearing in their Facebook feed.

I think it's not just about SEO because Facebook is a great tool for marketing purposes. It's proven time and again that word of mouth is the most effective and the most powerful form of advertising, because we'd probably rather go with a friends advice for a product or service than some banner being advertised on a website for a product or service we're looking for. Companies have started to realise over the last few years about what Twitter and Facebook offers in terms of free advertising, marketing and PR. And this is the primary reason that we find a lot of companies on Twitter nowadays, for example.

Facebook is a great way to connect with people. Maintaining a presence on Facebook is highly beneficial for any business. However it is also important to add regular posts and information so that the people connected with you can relate to them. If the posts are not posted on regular intervals, having a Facebook profile wont be beneficial.

I don't know how valuable the links are for optimizing your website for the search engines, but Facebook affords numerous opportunities for promoting your website. And perhaps the links themselves provide some measure of optimization.

I'm not a search engine optimization expert, but I feel rather sure that the links count for something substantial over the long term. If you have perhaps a hundred of so links to your site on various Facebook pages, Google would take notice.

Facebook can benefit your site in terms of popularity but I believe that Facebook make all such links no follow links so in terms of SEO they won't do you any good but having a presence on there can generate a lot of interest in your website and a substantial amount of clickthroughs .

Search engine optimization is important for establishing a presence on the web. With Facebook you can establish presence only on one website. There are many other social networking websites like Twitter and MySpace where you can create a strong profile. Moreover in order to establish an impressive online presence, it is essential get into article marketing, blogging and social bookmarking.
