Default IP address Blocking to a certian

To Block a certian IP address from hitting your server or a ISP. A user has to follow some commands

To block a new ip # with iptables
replace xxxx with the ip # you wish to block
-----------------------------------------------------
/sbin/iptables -I INPUT 1 -s xxxx -j DROP
-----------------------------------------------------

as soon as you get with the above...make a note that you have to run this one..to make them stick otherwise..they will clear at reboot or restart of iptables

-----------------------------------------------------
iptables-save > /etc/sysconfig/iptables
-----------------------------------------------------
OR a user can use ipchains

ipchains -I input 1 -s IP-here -j DENY

After the procedure is done don't forget to restart the ipchains service.
-----------------------------------------------------
/etc/init.d/ipchains restart or
-----------------------------------------------------
service ipchains restart

Thanks for sharing this. Am I correct that we can block IP's of a particular range from within the contol panel? I see there's a IP deny manager there. Does this block specif IP's for a website? Does any service need to be restarted after you add IP's in cPanel?

Yes you can also block the IP from cPAnel >> IPDenymanager using following steps:
**************
1. Login to your CPanel account.
2. Click on “IP deny manager” icon.
3. Specify IP address or domain name you wish to block in "Add an IP to deny" textbox.
4. Click on Add button.
**************
Usually IPDeny manager blocks specif IP's form accessing your website .
If you add ip from cpanel there is no need to restart any service.
And if you add Ip using the above steps then as per stated above you need to restart ipchains service.
