Default Installing Shoutcast

Hi,

I know that Shoutcast streaming is possible on Dedicated Server.

1> Is it possible to consider VPS for the same?
2> What is the procedure to install shoutcast?

Hi,

Shoutcast, depending on what bitrate you use for streaming your media can cause a high usage of bandwidth.

You can use Windows or Linux to install Shoutcast, the Windows files have an executable whereas the Linux files, you will need to do things more manually.

You could consider a VPS but for a high-listener, top quality stream I would consider a dedicated solution

Hi,

A Dedicated server is highly recommended for ShoutCast.

You can check the WHMSonic plugin for ShoutCast. Easy installation, however it works on a cPanel/WHM Linux based server.

You need to install the software directly on the server via root SSH. When you install the software, you will be able to access to WHMSonic under the WHM.

1> Is it possible to consider VPS for the same?
Ans. Yes shout cast can be run on VPS's, but due to its requirement of high resources, it is recommended to opt. for a high end VPS, even a semi-dedicated server can be an option. It depends on the web hosting provider actually.
You should get this confirmed from someone from Web Hosting UK.

2> What is the procedure to install shoutcast?
Ans. I found an article on Web Hosting UK's blog about the procedure. Please refer : Steps to install shoutcast

Hope it helps.

Thanks all,

@Matt Can I consider VPS to start? Later, if I need more resources, I can upgrade and move to Dedicated Server.

Also, thank you for the link, it is really helpful. As Dan said, shoutcast can also be installed on Windows. Do you know how?

Hi Samuel,

I will advice you to go with Semi-Dedicated or a dedicated server rather then VPS for getting optimal performance and top quality streams. You will get atleast 1GB RAM with the server which is sufficient for playing multiple audio stream simultaneously without affecting server performance or audio quality.
Yes, you can upgrade your semi-dedicated server to a fully managed dedicated server at any point of time.

Installing SHOUTcast on Windows Server :
SHOUTcast can be easily installs like any modern Windows application you install on your server. you need to download Winamp and will have to download and install SHOUTcast Radio DSP plug-in for Winamp which is mandatory for running Shoutcast on Windows server. More detailed information is available at www.shoutcast.com/download Under “ Instructions – Windows “ section
