Message Subtract allows you disable the Windows Messenger service, preventing advertising popups that are sent directly to your desktop, using your IP address. The interface simply provides a shortcut for to turn Messenger Service off. The same action can be performed by changing the Windows settings, however this tool is free and saves you a few mouse clicks. You can choose to stop the service, disable it or set it to manual. If you are not using a local network and receive legitimate LAN messages, you should choose disable.

Pop-Down v2.01 (Freeware)
Pop-Down eliminates pop-up windows in Internet Explorer. It runs in the system tray and watches for pop-up windows and closes them automatically. You can hold the CTRL button to allow a specific pop-up and specify the maximum number of Windows to be opened. We found that the automatic closing only works properly if no more than one browser window is opened, so if you frequently have multiple browser windows open, look elsewhere.
