Default FTP Access

I have a problem with a .pl program in my cgi-bin and want to allow someone to take a look at it.

However I don't want him to get to all my files - just the ones in the cgi-bin. I use frontpage (groan - yes I know) so am clueless when it comes to FTP etc.

I tried adding FTP access in cpanel but when I tried it in IE7 (file/open) it would only take my main passwords etc not the new ones I had set up.

What am I doing wrong? Am I completely off beat here (again)?

I am using cpanel 10 because the new one gives me errors in email filters.

This is what I did.

FTP Manager - FTP Accounts - Add FTP Account
login: test
password: visitor
quota: unlimited
directory : /cgi-bin/
CREATE

When I then go to IE7/file/open and put in craftbits.co.uk/cgi-bin/ "open as web folder" (which is what I was told to do) it asks me for my main login and password and won't take any other.

Obviously I have done something wrong - any help?

Did you sort this Cassie?

Best to download a free ftp client than use IE. You may find it may work for you.

There are many free clients out there, I use coreftp lite, it does all i need

some customers have suggested filezilla and fireFTP (a firefox plugin) these are both free and fairly comprehensive in their features. You should download one of this FTP softwares.

I used to use Filezilla but I've had some problems with it recently. I'd recommend SmartFTP though, nice interface and easy to use. If you want someone to have a look at the script wouldm't it be easier to just email them a copy?

It's not so much the script but the permissions etc. He wrote the script !

The script (a Cutecast forum) worked fine for years on my other hosting, then suddenly it stopped working. We think we have traced the fault to cookies but that hoster says he has not changed anything. If you delete the cookie you can see the forum subjects and post titles but nothing in the posts, if you try and login then you get not found errors etc. That hoster says he can't give me any remote access because I use frontpage. I think it is probably because he is a one man band (with a flashy website) and doesn't know how to fix it and won't give us extra access in case we find he out - I'm probably just being paranoid on that point though...

So I tried to start from scratch on my hosting here but it won't even start to work.

I am sure the Cutecast bod has some sort of FTP programme - I was more worried that I hadn't set the extra FTP account for just the cgi-bin correctly as it didn't seem to work how I expected when I tested it.
