SQL Server
Hi. I have enterprise manager at home and it would be REALLY useful to administer my database from there. This would enable me to develop the site off the LIVE DB too which would be mighty handy.
Is there anyway this is possible?
Thanks in advance.

Hi tom, I am not sure what Enterprise manager is but if you are refering to having something like mysql databases running on your home pc then yes you can.
There are many ways to do this, IIS, downloading various available software (search google). I use something called uniformserver.com/ which is a small download and creates a server on your pc which includes php, perl, mysql, etc.

Hello Tom,
You can connect to your MSSQL database using Enterprise Manager. All you need to do is include database name, username and password and you can make connection to your live DB.

Hi, thanks,
Don't I need to give it a URL too somehow?
The database is on your severs and the Enterprise Manager is on my machine...
Sorry if I am missing something obvious.
Thanks
Tom.

Yep. IP address of the server has to be included. Without that your enterprise manager will search for the database on your machine and not our server

This is a really useful thing to be able to do as well. I have to work off a development server that doesn't allow me to create remote MySQL users (i.e. I can only create user@localhost) and it's a pain in the arse keeping local development servers synced with the remote ones.

Enterprise Manager is like PHPMyAdmin. You use PHPMyAdmin for development of mysql database and some customers use Enterprise Manager for development of MSSQL database.
Working and structure of both databases is completely different so only google wont help.
