Default .ORG extension

Is the .org extension considered the best choice for any organization or cause that wants to establish a website? I've been told that many organizations choose the .com version because it's more familiar to possible visitors.

Yes, .ORG domian extension was originally intended for non-profit organizations or organizations of a non-commercial character.
Though .com extension is more familiar but i will advice you to go with .org if your is Non-profit/commercial type.

Yeah, if you were building a website for your non-profit organization, it would be better to register a .org domain name for the website. Later, you could register the .com version of the domain and redirect it to your main website. Wikipedia and many other non profit organizations did that.

Thank you, Harry and Networker! I appreciate your feedback and believe you're right. The proper website name should include the .org, but I might take your suggestion and secure the same domain name with a dot com extension. Domain names cost little enough to make this worth it.

Definitely it is always a good idea to register the popular tld's of your domain names. You never know when you may need them. That ways you also ensure scammers and cyber squatters don't get a hold of your online identity.
