Default Domain Name Renewal and Search Engines

Is it true that registering your domain name for a longer period of time is preferred by Google? Perhaps that was part of one of their algorithms, but I was wondering if this was still considered helpful with optimizing your site.

I suppose if your site shows as being registered well into the future, it could give it more validity when the search engine evaluate it. I'm not an expert in the matter, but it seems reasonable to me.

I have heard of that also, and it makes a lot of sense to me. That's why I always register a new domain name for at least two years in advance.

I'm going to start doing that with my domain names. I have one domain that's ancient and yet I have always renewed it a year or two at the time. It's also a good idea because there's far less chance of letting your domain name lapse if you keep it renewed several years ahead.

That makes sense. It helps especially when you register the domain name. I think search engines like it because it shows that you are serious with the domain name.

Many of the automated type of sites are probaby registered for only a year at a time since so many fail. So, yes, a webmaster who registers his or her domain name for several years at a time is basically saying that they expect to keep their site. It shows that they value their site, so the search engines are likely to do the same.

I usually register a domain name for three years or at least two years in advance. Registering a domain name for a longer period helps to gain trust not only from search engines but also from your readers.
