Default Back ordering domain names

I have a hyphenated domain name, say my-domain[dot]com. Currently the non hyphenated version (of course mydomain[dot]com) is about to expire, and I got an email offering to back order the domain. Do you think it is worth it?

It would be great to own both the hyphenated and non hyphenated version of a domain. But I think it would depend on how great the domain is and how much they sell it at.

Yes, it depends on how great and catchy the domain name is. If you think the domain is not so catchy, just wait a bit. Chances are the owner will let it expire and you can register it yourself.

The domain could be of a great value to you as you already own a similar domain name. However, you should get it for a reasonable price and you should make sure that you buy the domain from a genuine supplier as many such instances have taken place when fake emails have been sent to people to purchase domains and the domains haven't been provided even after the payment was done.

It would certainly be worth it to me to secure the non-hyphenated version of a domain name if I had one. The exact worth is another matter. That partly depends on the additional traffic you would receive. You could redirect any traffic that comes through the non-hyphenated version to your current site.
