.eu Domain Name Transfer and Renewal.
How to transfer a .eu domain name? (.eu is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the European Union [EU])
A] Transfer of the .eu domain name from one Registrant (owner of the domain name) to another Registrant, also known as a ‘Trade’.
1) The new registrant, person to whom you want to transfer your .eu domain name, must ask his chosen registrar to initiate a transfer. The registrar then initiates a transfer through EURid (EURid manages the .eu top-level domain under contract to the European Commission.) on his/her behalf, which is referred as Trade.
2) On receiving of a transfer request, a confirmation email is sent by EURid to both the parties, the current domain name holder and the future holder.
3) Both needs to confirm the trade (transfer) by clicking on a link given in the email.
4) A period of 14-days is allotted for the transfer to be confirmed. If neither or only one person confirms the transfer within the given time, the trade gets cancelled. Confirmation from both the parties is necessary to approve the trade. One can also send their confirmation by fax.
Please note, if you represent an organisation or company, you must send a fax on official company letterhead or use a company stamp on your fax.
5) After approval and completion of the transfer EURid will update the .eu WHOIS database.
6) Also, after the transfer all the previous nameservers are cleared. Therefore, you need to log into your control panel and set them again.
7) A new 12 months’ Registration period is added to the domain name from the moment the transfer is completed and not from the current expiration date of the domain.
B] Transfer between one Registrar to another Registrar.
1) In order to change the Registrar of the .eu domain name, the Registrant (owner of the domain name) must contact the Registrar, to whom he wishes to transfer the domain, and ask them to initiate the transfer of the domain name.
2) The gaining Registrar then initiates the transfer through EURid.
3) EURid then sends an auto verification email to the Registrant at the administrative contact email address as per WHOIS database.
Therefore, it is important that one should have the access to the email address in order to approve the transfer request.
4) The Registrant must confirm the transfer by clicking of the link given in the email within a period of 14-days. The transfer can also be confirmed by fax.
If no confirmation is received within the given time the transfer is closed. To continue with the transfer, it must be re-initiated by contacting the registrar.
5) Once the confirmation is received from the registrant, the transfer is processed and on successful completion of the transfer a notification is sent by EURid to both the losing and the gaining Registrar.
6) On completion of the transfer all the previous nameservers gets cleared. So you need to log into your control panel and set them again.
7) A new 12 months’ Registration period is added to the domain name from the moment the transfer is completed and not from the current expiration date of the domain.
For example, if your domain name is going to expire after 2 months, you will only have 12 months added after the transfer and not 2 + 12 months.
When to Renew the .eu domain name?
The Registration term (period of registration) of a .eu domain is for 1 to 10 years. This registration term can be extended at any time before it expires.
Regarding the renewal date of your .eu domain name, we have a billing software that auto generates the renewal reminder emails well in advance, so that you will get sufficient time to renew your domain name.
It is recommended to enable auto-renewal for .eu domain names. If auto-renewal is not enabled and the domain expires, the domain will be deleted on the 27th day after the expiration month, then it will go into a 40-days' quarantine period.
