Domain name cheekyness

I was wondering if anything can be done about this..If I registered a domain like greatdomainname.co.uk one day then the following day a competing company registered greatdomainname.com and pointed it to their site is there anything I can do about this?

Why are you so worried if any xyz company has register the domain name greatdomainname.com. Any one can register any xyz domain name of there choice .

I mean the owners of another website were watching to see what domain I would get, then they copied it with a .com and had it redirect to their own site, their own sites domain name is completely different.

I'm sure I read a while ago about rules that were made to try and stop misuse of domain names such as this, did I dream that?

Its a free world, I personally dont think it should cause you any problems unless its you actual business name

I read something once about "cybersquatting", but I believe that's only in the instance of someone trying to profit from a well-known business or individual. Otherwise, domain names are essentially on a first come, first serve basis. When you register a name, you can always register any similar variations you want. Then, you can set up those domains to be redirected.
