Default How to register a domain name without revealing personal information?

If in case a person wants to create a website about hosting reviews good and bad.. And the discussions on the site might cause trouble to the founder if their information is revealed through the domain contact details.

How can that person own a domain name without revealing personal information?

Hello,

The owner can contact to his webhosting company and apply for the ID protection for his domain. Once the domain is ID protected, contact information will not be displayed at whois

I think if you hide the contact details.. users to that website may not find the reviews to be genuine.. What do you guys think about this?

That's right Matt but since OP / website owner don't want to get into trouble if anything went wrong from his hosting reviews (good/bad) website then hiding WHOIS would be an good option. Many registrar charge extra for such Domain ID protect feature.

I see.. Isn't it illegal to hide your details on who-is?

It is not illegal to hide the contact information on a domain. basically, Whois or Domain ID Protect came into existence to avoid the unwanted emails or messages from spammers.

but not recommeded for real business owners as your customers may doubt your presense and may avoid trying your services / products.

For an example, a person wants to create a website about politics. And the discussions on the site might be somewhat radical, which can cause trouble to the founder if their information is revealed.
