Default Expired domain names?

I'm trying to register a new domain name. WHOIS will say that it is expired but then say that someone else has it. But when you go to it there is nothing at all. Should I give up on it?

Seems the domain you are trying to book is in redemption period.

Redemption period is the period during which a deleted domain may be reclaimed by the original owner by paying an additional fee. It refers to the period of 30 days from the date of deletion of the domain name. When a domain name expires without being renewed, it is deleted within a period of 45 days. The domain names which fall in the redemption period are put on hold by the registrar. Once this happens, the website and email services will stop working for a period of 30 days before the domain is included in the list of domains available for registration.
Hope this helps !!!!

You are able to check whether the domain name is in Redemption Period or not on WHOIS. If incase it's not showing the status of the domain name, it is possible that the domain is expired some time ago due to which the status of the domain name is not updated on WHOIS.

The registry may hold the domain before releasing it for public registration. So, you will need to wait until it is available.
