Default Domain Renewal

Hi,

I have a domain name. I have not worked on it much, so I don't worry about the data too. The domain is about to expire now. I don't have any domain control panel and can't contact the registrar. It says "Registrant: Protected Domain Services". How can I renew it please? Or, is it worth waiting for domain to expire and later when it is released to be registered again, register it? What do you suggest please?

Hi Matt123,

I have tried to answer your questions below, Hope it helps

Unfortunately, it is not possible to renew your domain name with an another domain registrar as this is an official restriction by ICANN which does not allows any kind of exceptions so you can contact your existing Registrar and renew your domain with them.

Also I see that you are looking at the "Registrant: Protected Domain Services" for the registrar.

Registrant is the person who registers the domain name. And as you are getting the above message of protected domain services, it means that domain has an ID protect services enabled on it which hides the identify of the domain registrant but Still you can find out that where you domain is registered by checking out the Registrar Section.

I would recommend you to renew it once the domain expires, as if you wait till the domain is released, then you may have to wait upto the next 90 days to re-order it again, as a domain name has different stages after it gets expired.

Thanks for the information. Do you mean to say that if you let your domain that has PR-3 expired and than re-register it after 90 days, you would be like registering a new domain name which is not even indexed by search engines yet?

Domain won't loose PR as long its backlinks are intact. As long google indexing is concerned, it won't take too long to index once you register it again.

I am afraid, you may not get your domain available after 90 days of it's expiry because many domain trader have prying eyes on such dropping domain names, they backorder such domains by paying more amount for them.

I see. Thanks Jack for the information. Now I know why people are talking about purchasing expired domain names and why it can be a lucrative business. So, from this point of view, I think we should have no issue letting the domain expired and re-register it again after 90 days. Though, I agree with Harry about the domain availability.

Yes, purchasing expired domains can definitely be a lucrative business if you know how to do it.
