As per the rules set by ICANN for domain transfer, an EPP Code / Authorization Key which is unique for each domain name is required. The transfer request can only be initiated with the EPP code / Authorization Key between two registrar's. The EPP code / Authorization Key can be retrived only from the current domain registrar of the domain name.
What is EPP Code / Authorization Key?
============================
An Authorization code is the alphanumeric code which adds extra level of security to the domain name registration. This code is unique for each domain name registered and is assigned by the registrar at the time of the domain registration. This ensures that the owner only can transfer the domain
This code is very important while domain transfer process. This code must be requested from the current domain registrar in order to transfer the domain.
The Authorization code is also referred as Authcode or EPP code. This code is 6 - 16 characters.

We suggest you to update the name server that has been provided to you in the Welcome Email for your domain before starting the domain transfer process. The name server can be updated from the current domain registrar to make point the domain name to our servers. Most domain registrars have an online control panel which will allow you to update these yourself. Updating the name servers, prior to the transfer, will prevent any downtime during the migration process for your hosting account.
Why domains cannot be transfered ?
===========================
There are several reasons why the owner may not be able to transfer the domain : -
1. The domain is in ‘REGISTRAR-LOCK‘ status. The owner should unlock the domain before continuing the domain transfer.
2. The domain is newly registered, such newly registered domains cannot be transferred to another domain registrar till 60 days of completion wit the existing domain registrar.
3. The email address present in the whois directory (records updated in the registrant/administrative contact for the domain) is not valid. The owner should update the email address in the whois directory by contacting with the existing domain registrar.
4. The Authorization code for the domain is not been provided yet. The owner should ask for the Auth-code from the current domain registrar.
5. The domain is expired; still the owner is trying to transfer the domain. If the domain expires before the domain transfer has been initiated, a possibility exist that the domain transfer can be denied even though the owner has submitted an order to transfer the domain before the expiration date of the domain.
6. The transfer has not been authorized yet. Please check your email for the authorization email.

Domain Transfer : UK TLD Domain names.
=====================================
IPS TAG only applies to UK Domains like .co.uk , .uk.com, .uk.net, .me.uk .ac.uk and .org.uk. For UK TLD domains, the domain is transferred by changing the IPS TAG. You need to place a request to your current domain registrar to change the IPS TAG for the domain to " WEBHOSTINGUK" (without quotes). It takes couple of minutes/hours for the domain to get transferred to our Nominet account.
What is IPS TAG?
=============
Internet Provider Security(IPS) tags are used by Internet Service Providers (ISP) to allow control of the Domain Name System (DNS). The term "IPS" is now considered obsolete by Nominet - the UK Head Registry, and has since been replaced by the term "registrar". An IPS tag is the case sensitive label that applies to each ISP (Internet Service Providers) and is required to transfer domain names from one ISP (Internet Service Providers) to another. A domain name owner does not have the access to change this tag themselves, he has to contact the current registrar (ISP - Internet Service Provider).
If the current domain registrar is not responding to your request to change the IPS TAG, you may directly contact Nominet - the UK Head Registry and get the IPS TAG changed from them. Nominet.org.uk will charge £10.00 + VAT to change the IPS TAG.
