Default domain name and dns?

I've recently purchased a reseller hosting account and one of the things that interested me was (Private DNS - resell to your clients under your own brand name)
does this mean i can send out instructions to my clients telling them that they need to change their domain name to point to my name servers? if so what would those settings likely to be?

im just slightly confused as WHM new account has my name servers of ns25.redbackinternet.net ??

Hi Robert,

to WebHosting UK community.

Resellers choose to have their own private name servers for appearance reasons. If you use private nameservers then your clients won’t know that you are reselling our web hosting services unless you let them know. Private name servers are the name servers which includes your own domain name. For ex: If you are hosting abc.com with us then you can use the nameservers as ns1.abc.com and ns2.abc.com

In the welcome email we have provided our default nameservers. You can ignore that and can use your own private nameservers.

For information on private nameservers please refer our knowlegebase Setup Private Name Servers for reseller hosting | Web Hosting UK | Dedicated Server | VPS Hosting | Windows Hosting

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

ok that makes things easier to understand, i just wasnt sure if it made a difference because ive kept my domain with my registrar and just pointed the dns to your servers.

im guessing if someone really wanted to see who my reseller was then they could just look up my domain dns - which i doubt can be hidden?

You set your domains DNS to your own DNS servers, for example

if you have host12347374734.com you would set that domain's nameservers to for example,

ns1.host12347374734.com
ns2.host12347374734.com

You would need to change the IP's to your servers, as stated in http://www.webhosting.uk.com/web-hos...eller-hosting/

If you would have transferred the domain to us then your hosting as well as domain name service would have been at one place. It would have become easy for you to manage the hosting and domain invoices. We notify all our client well in advance about the hosting and domain renewal.

thing is i have lots of domains and i want to keep them all together.

im not sure if my question is being misunderstood, i know that i can point new accounts dns to my reseller account dns, but i was curious to see how i could hide the fact that my reseller account dns is going to your servers. which i didnt think i could do as if they didnt point to your servers then they wouldnt be visible for when i wanted to control things ?

There many ways to find out information on the server IP which hosts your reseller account. Similarly medium and large webhosting providers prefer dedicated servers with custom whois information to not let their customers know, or easily find out, where their services are located. Please refer Custom Branded Dedicated Servers | Web Hosting UK | Dedicated Server | VPS Hosting | Windows Hosting

Hope this helps you

ive added one of my own websites to my reseller account and then amended the domain via the registrar name server login to my ns1.myreselleraccount.com and ns2.myreselleraccount.com,

will i need to also make amends to the websites DNS to also include ns1.myreselleraccount.com and ns2.myreselleraccount.com via my WHM panel, or should your servers automatically pickup the change?

You will need to make changes in WHM as well.

Hi,

Our servers will automatically pickup your nameservers, but we recommend adding separate A record for your nameservers from your WHM to avoid any problems in future. Some ISPs may not allow their customers to browse your websites due to the error which occurs from no A record of nameservers on host server.

i logged into WHM and edit DNS for the domain, then basically copied the 2 standard dns addresses and added in ns1.resellerdomain.com and ns2.resellerdomain.com. having then went back into double check changes had been saved i noticed that the 2 name server addresses i entered appeared as

ns1.resellerdomainname.com.clientwebsite.com.

im not sure what details i need to put in for 'A' record, but the name server details i copied were 'NS' records?

but i couldnt access the clientwebsite.com by using my ns1.resellerdomain.com details, but soon as i entered your NS details the clientwebsite was accessable within 5-10minutes?

any ideas what im doing wrong or how long I would typically need to wait?

Don't edit your main DNS zone to add new A records for your nameservers.

Simply click on "Add A DNS Zone" and add a Zone file for both the nameservers with respective IPs.

If you wish to edit the main domains zone file then simply put ns1 and ns2 respectively and set A records for both.

Don't put ns1.domain.com if adding from main domains zone file.
