Default Best UR Domain Registrar

Any suggestions for best UK registrar? I am using 123-Reg at the moment but support is not so good. Some charge to allow a transfer away, and some don't give a full free control panel. I have also used 1&1 and would never use tham again. And UKReg seem to to be Fasthosts.

1and1.co.uk are good for cheap prices, they have to manually accept nameserver changes through nominet which is the bad thing.

I dont really purchase .co.uk domains for the simple reason i don't target my websites to the UK only but globally with .com =]

You can do more with the 123reg control panel than you can on here but, as you quite rightly say, 123reg customer support is virtually no-existent. I use them to register and park/forward domains then use the hosting on here. Don't touch Easily.co.uk - you thought 123reg had bad customer service ..........

Really I have found 123-Reg OK simply because I never had any problems, but I have a problem now as trying to update my nameserver only comes back as error Unroutable ip address Web Hosting UK say it is a Registrar fault but of course I cannot get 123-Reg to respond to my ticket request. I have mainly liked 123-Reg for their control panel and the fact that they don't keep your credit card details on their system.

You don't use ip addresses with 123-reg, you use nameservers don't you? as in : ns1.mydomain.com, or am i not understanding the problem?

Hi jon123, you are quite right you enter nameservers with 123-reg, but with this domain when I enter nameservers it immediately opens a new page asking for the IP address of the nameservers. One of the IP addresses it accepts fine but the other one it rejects as unroutable.

Oh, i see your problem.
As you already know, you will be waiting forever for them to get back to you. No chance of using alternate nameservers or that already been tried?
I see from the net they have problems with .org nameservers!

the only other option is the 50p a minute call, which is disgusting isn't it

I tried to ring them once and after 15 minutes hung up (really not worth the money) - just keep emailing them - they have to answer it eventually.

They don't make any profit on domain registration service so one should not expect them to give 24x7 support for domain registration problems.

They get .co.uk domains for £5 from Nominet and they sell those for same price so they can never think of employing staff to offer support for domain registration tickets.

Does this apply to most Domain Registrars, or in your experience are some better than others? The Site I am having trouble with still works OK but both namservers have the same IP address because I cannot get the automated service on 123-Reg to change the second one.

most of these registrars expect more domain customers as they expect 10% of those to consider hosting packages or other services as well and that is what has made Godaddy so successful. Godaddy has absolutely no profit in domain registrations but they have over 5k dedicated server customers so one can imagine how successful they are with their Business policies.

Others are trying to follow them but they wont be as successful as Godaddy. Its better to keep sufficient profit margin on all services you offer. If you get domain for £5 + VAT from Nominet then sell it for twice of that. We have similar profit margin on all our hosting plans as well as domain registration service due to which we can afford to offer good service to all customers.

How about considering EuroDNS.com services?
They are highly recommended and offer lots of free services like:
1) Free DNS services : IPv4, IPv6, MX, CNAME
2) URL Forwarding
3) Email forwarding (features e-mail catch-all)
