How do you choose a good domain name
How does one come up with a good domain name? You know these big companies like yahoo, google, myspace, ebay and so much more!! How did these people come up with such a good idea for a domain name, I personally don't know how they did it but whenever it's time for me to register a domain name, I just go clueless.
I would really like to own a very huge all round company some day but I just don't know what to call it,or rather which domain name to register for it. It is one of my very big dreams to own a very large all round company and although I can't really see my way right now I would like to start by getting a very good domain name, but as I said before I'm kinda clueless. This company would be all in one maybe some thing like yahoo, with free email service, web hosting, search engine, news entertainment and much more, through just one domain name.
I would be truly greatful if you guys would help me out here and give me some very good idea for a domain name. And remember guys it should not be too long, it should be catchy and it should be very unique.
Please help me everyone, thanks in advance.

If you already have an established brand name, then obviously the domain should match it as closely as possible.
Domains should be short, and easy to remember. You can get away with longer domains if they are made up of easy-to-remember words.
Domain names that explain what the site does are good, but don't do so at the expense of making it too long or difficult to remember. People can only remember so many combinations of words, dashes and dots before they forget it.

It is better to have a domain name which is related to your niche as this will create great impact on the visitors of your website and they will remember the domain easily. Also, it would be a good option to have keywords related to your website and it's content in the domain.
When it comes to the TLD of the domain, .com is what I would suggest. However, if you are targeting a specific Country for business then you can register a domain name of the Country.

Right!!
If you want to target traffic from any specific region, you should opt for Country-code Top Level domains. This helps not only to get the traffic from that region but also in getting reliable business.
Also, if the content is unique, your domain can be fetched in the SE results globally, irrespective of what the TLD is.

Certainly, I have heard people saying that .info domains are not considered by search engines and hence they do not have good rankings in search engines.
This is totally wrong as the domain name TLD does not make any difference in the search engine rankings of the website. If you have a good content on your website and good number of quality backlinks, your website will definitely get good rankings in search engines

Well, if you have a website with good and relevant content, you will surely get higher rankings in search engines, however, if you are targeting a specific Country for your business, it is recommended that you host your website on the servers from that Country as search engines often rank websites on the basis of the location of the server on which the website is hosted

Very true.Having a website with country specific domain extension and hosted on the server located in or near the targeted market can help to attract traffic from specific geo-location. But,there are many websites that get visitors from across the globe,in such cases where you wish to target customers from across the globe, a .com domain is useful. The only way to attract traffic from specific geo location is to include content/keywords that are usually used.

If you are targeting a specific geo-location (Country) to get traffic and business for your website, it is recommended that you get backlinks from websites which are hosted on the servers from that geo-location (Country).
For example, if you have a UK based website and you wish to get good amount of traffic from the UK, it is better to get backlinks from UK based websites i.e. websites which are hosted on the servers based in the UK as this will help you to get better rankings in the search engines and more traffic

You can also submit your website to country specific online directories to get traffic. This can help you gain dual benefits i.e. in terms of search engine traffic as well as live traffic.

Well, Directory submissions do help a lot in terms of search engine optimization as they provide useful backlinks, however, they drive hardly any traffic to the website as most of the visitors visit directories to submit links (as far as I know ).

Apart from a brief idea about the website (can be seen on about us page), there are many more concepts to make your website popular, increase traffic etc.
If all these remaining things (as you said) depend on the unique content, I would never wonder about what the domain name is..... just work on the unique content, that's it!!!!

And on the subject of backlinks, does anyone know if backlinks through rotating ads affect ranking?
Hope my meaning is clear enough - I haven't started investigating ads, so don't know the lingo.
