Default How to Buy a Domain Name

In order to buy country specific TLD one has to be the resident of that country.
To which TLD does this apply? Is there any specific reason behind it?

Most ccTLDs do require local presence while there are some ccTLDs which people from any country can register. For example .co.in, .in for India and .co.uk for United Kingdom and a few others do not require local presence or citizens of those countries to register. While some like .eu for European Union, .it for Italy, .ca for Canada. .au for Australia and .sg for Singapore and a lot of others do require local presence to register their ccTLDs.

Default Country Specific TLDs

Yes Martin, you are right. In order to buy country specific TLD one has to be the resident of that country. Not to worry, you can take the help of agencies who have setup in countries of your choice. They will register it on your behalf. Although rules varies from country to country. So for some countries, as Peter mentioned, you will have to seek help of local contacts.
