Domain hack is a sort of an unconventional domain name. These are becoming more and more popular as the single word .com names are becoming scarce. They make use of the top-level domain as an integral part of the Web site's title. There are a few popular Web sites having unconventional domain names. del.icio.us and blo.gs which spell out as 'delicious' and 'blog', respectively. These domains are using country code top level domain names, namely, .us (United States) and .gs (South Georgia). The word hack is used in a different sense here. It does not mean a break-in as used in the context of security. It just means a clever trick.

Domain hacks offer the ability to produce extremely short domain names. A popular example is blo.gs with five letters total, versus the comparable blogs.com with eight letters.
