Is it true that few domain registrars are making money in sort of pay per click advertising as soon as the domain expires or the grace period times are lowered ?

Even I have heard about some registrars holding domains after they expire, and sit on them with advertisements on the page for a few days just to analyze if it has traffic and if it has the potential to make money. I think it's an unethical practice though.
