The main role of the .mobi domain is to gather users to sites and services specially designed for mobile devices. This tld would mainly appeal to phone operators, service providers and handset manufacturers. It's in Sunrise period right now, meaning only those who have Registered TMs can apply for those domains.

.mobi is a new tld and cannot be compared to .com but it'll be interesting to see how it does.
