.com : Why so popular?

Propotion to usage, registration etc why .com is so popular comparing to .net,.org etc ?

There are a lot of factors which make .com popular and valuable. The resale value, type in traffic, it's the most well known and widely used extension. .com will be the first that a majority of people will type when typing in the name of a site, other extensions are doing well and growing, but the majority will run to check the .com first.

Probably you missed to get the specific point to eleborate. My point is why it's so popular? possibly .com was the begining of internet era and hence occupied with most of the site owner and you know the scercity of any thing make it more popular and somewhat costly. btw .org is getting over to .net as per current research.

I agree, I didn't mention the 'Rule of whoever or whatever comes first is more valuable'. So when an average person thinks internet, he may only think and know about .com. Somehow I still feel that .net is better for online business and commercial sites after .com as compared to .org even though the research may say .org is getting over .net.

I think the main reason why .com is so famous because it was the first commercial domain name, and all the major companies in the world have .com Web sites.

.com is an unrestricted global domain name. Businesses all over the world prefer .com mainly because it’s has a widely recognized business presence on the Internet. But as the availability of .com names reduces there are other extensions like .net, .org and .info to consider.

I think one day .coms will not be so popular. Belgium had a great idea of offering free .be registrations about a year ago and they gained a lot of attention from this. With other tlds offering similiar promotions in the future the lesser cost of these domains will make them become just as popular as .coms

.com will always be popular, only thing which will prompt people to buy other tld would be the inavailability or scarcity of .com names. .be was offered free and that was the reason it became so popular, but it cannot be compared to .com as it is a cctld.

well i think .com is world wide recognised and has quite more to give than .net or .org and above all many users are using .com
