While I am not a customer yet since i do not have a hosting account with webhosting.uk.com, i just wanted to log my experience with the abuse team, specially Nicolaus.
On the past Monday, I had a report of a very severe port scan activity from a server belonging to webhosting uk. I sent that request to the abuse team expecting to get a reply ages later. To my very pleasant surprise, I got a clarification and a report of what has been done to stop that particular activity from happening again; all in a matter of 2 hours! Given the general callous standards of response times across the hosting community, I was very elated to see such quick actions. Nicolaus, the quality head had tracked it down and replied back - all in 2 hours time, thats all.
There was a repeat incident 24 hours later which was dealt with the same swiftness and intensity. I am never generous with praise, but this is one occasion where I am going to be liberal. Having dealt with innumerable
web hosting companies and their abuse departments who are never bothered about whats happening untill and unless you threaten blacklisting their network, webhosting.uk.com have a very prompt and active abuse section, which is heartening to see.
I am on travel in India for a Nasscom convergence on security. When I have a look at the overall vigilance of the abuse section, it is not very good. Webhosting UK are definitely an exception and i think thats down to their quality head Nicolaus.
Here's wishing you all great success and may you continue to be vigilant and a responsible hosting company.
Cheers.
