How to run from a command line?

I'm trying to update a wiki I have and the database update is timing out. The instructions say it's better to run 'php update.php' from a command line.

Any idea how I can get to somewhere where I can type that in?

Hello,
If you have a root SSH access then you can use script called easyapache to update php and php-modules. OR you can ask server admin to get it done.
If you have plesk server then its little critical job but can be done with external script named atomic.
