is it necessary to add A record for mx1 and mx2 pointing to my IP, in the zone template ?

Hi,
Basically its really not necessary to add A records to get work with this. You have to use the External mail servers those are working. Here is an example on adding MX record from WHM -
domain name | TTL | Record Type | Priority | MX Record
------------------------------------------------------------------
example.com. | 14400 | MX | 10 | mx1.example.com.
example.com. | 14400 | MX | 20 | mx2.example.com.
------------------------------------------------------------------
You have to click on “Save” at the bottom of the window. Allow couple of hours to propagate and approximately with in 12 - 16 hour you're entire work is done !

2: Can you do this, in cPanel X v2.6.0 ?

Do you mean that you need to edit the MX records within theme of cPanel X v2.6.0" ? If your answer is yes, then do look for the option "Modify MX Entry" under "E-Mail" in cPanel .
