Default Setting default email address using cPanel hosting control panel.

I notice that, in cpanel webhosting control panel, when I park a domain and look at the default email address the box is prefilled with the account username. Is there a way of making this and alias for the default email address, or do I have to set each domain individually?

Hi,

You should set :blackhole: or :fail: instead of catchall. If you really need catchall for your domains then set it manually, but I won't recommend catchall as it helps spammers to use invalid email address on your domain as a sender in their spamming scripts.

I know that. The client wants it, I have explained the potential problems. So there is no alternative to setting it manually? It seems strange that cpanel automatically fills the box with the username if it's NOT intended to be used as an alias.

Having looked at cpanel yesterday I note that it clearly states that 'To send all default mail to the main mail account, simply type the user name of your cPanel account in the email address input field.' Helpfully, cpanel inserts the username in the box for you. However, to re-iterate, this does not work.

I contacted live support who unfortunately were also unable to throw any light on the matter but advised me to set the default addresses manually. That's not much help really.

I remain convinced that this is a cpanel 'feature' that has been disabled, but I can't honestly see why.

The main account is used to receive all undirected mail. To switch this to a different account , providing you use the cPanel X3 theme use the URL below changing mysite to your domain name.

http://www mysite.com:2082/frontend/x3/mail/def.html

You will find the default routing options in there

But when you enter the username (as instructed) it doesn't work!

I know I can manually enter an address. The point is, the username is automatically filled in. Therefore each new parked domain should, according to the isntructions, automatically forward mail to the registered address.

Hi Geoff,

We keep catchall option disabled by default at the time of setup of server. We make this settings from "Tweak Settings" option within the WHM hosting control panel

There are few more options available in "Tweak Settings" related to catchall, but there's no solution for the cpanel bug as of now. We will open a new ticket with them and ask them to provide us with a fix.

Thanks for confirming it as a bug. Thought I was losing it.
