Default CMS and blogging software

Wordpress was originally (and still is) a blogging software while Joomla and Drupal are CMS. But then many webmasters seem to consider all the three CMS. I have no issue with that, but some other webmasters have. What do you think differs a blogging software from a CMS?

I don't know for sure, and honestly I don't really care about what Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla is called. For me, all the three are content management systems.

Earlier WordPress was limited to being a blogging platform, however now it has grown to be a website creation platform and a content management system as well. Along with WordPress, Joomla and Drupal are also very efficient content management systems. Basically the blogging software only allows you to create and add blogs whereas the content management system is a software that enables you to install any program through your own computer. With a content management system, you can use your browser to log into your website in order to add photos, articles or any other content.

Thanks Rachael, that is enlightening. So, is it safe to say that a content management system has more features and functionality than a blogging platform does? But I notice that with another blogging platform like Blogger, you can also add articles, photos, videos and other content using your browser.

A content management system is a broader aspect as compared to a blogging platform. The main functions of a content management system include:
  • People can contribute, store and share information
  • Repetitive duplicate content can be reduced
  • Complete management of the website content

A blogging platform will surely enable you to add the content, pictures, videos and other attributes for making the blog impressive. However a content management system works on a broader perspective.
