In terms of shared web hosting services, a cloud hosting infrastructure comprises of some unique benefits. Although the end user might nor be aware of this; the main advantage to the web hosting company is that it can offer better, more scalable and more reliable service. This can be done by running multiple servers on the backed with a "floating" infrastructure. Therefore there is absolutely no downtime to your website. This means that your hosting account is not attached to just one physical server in contrast with the traditional shared hosting services. In case of the cloud hosting infrastructure the servers going down will not have any affect on your hosting activities. Therefore in the cloud hosting infrastructure, greater efficiency can be maintained. The main point of difference between cloud hosting and shared hosting is the cost effectiveness. In case of cloud hosting, you only have to pay for the resources you have used, this is not the case with shared hosting. In case you have a small website, then shared web hosting can be beneficial for you; however in case of a big website, cloud hosting is a better option.

Each Cloud Shared Hosting cluster makes use of a number of different servers and SAN storages. Hosting on these clusters eliminates the possibilities of downtime due to power or network outage. Incase of failure of one cloud servers or a storage, all services would automatically migrate from the failed server to other live servers within the same cluster.

I own an online store and I would like to sign up for a cloud hosting plan. However I have also come across something like a private cloud....

Can someone please illustrate the difference between basic cloud hosting and private cloud?

The basic cloud hosting is a public cloud that is placed outside your company's firewall. A public cloud is accessible to many websites. It also enables you to use more storage space that is available on the public cloud. A private cloud is an entire cloud assigned for the hosting requirements of your company. All the hosting activities take place within the firewall of your company. A private cloud facilitates the functioning and synchronization of various internal operations. Public Cloud means that you will have your own Cloud server setup in a Public environment There will be multiple Cloud servers which will be setup in same environment Private Cloud means you will get a private environment to host your website. This Private Cloud will consist of multiple servers which will be connected to each other via a private network where only your website will be hosted. It will be like your own Private network where no other website will be hosted.

I think the best advantage of cloud hosting is that you pay as you use and it's scalability.

Clustered Hosting refers to a type of web hosting service that allows a network of various connected servers to share and deliver resources. The network of servers does not have to be in the same place. Most of them are located in data centers strewn all over the globe. This type of hosting has limitless processing power as you can always scale up and add another server – at any given time. There are many advantages like scalability, easy implementation, skilled practitioners, frees up internal resources etc.
In the shared server hosting, there is one main server. The server admin allocates space to multiple users of the servers from his hard disk in the main server.
