Well, selecting an OS for your server totally depends on you. If you are comfortable with Windows then you should choose Windows and if you are comfortable with Linux then you should have Linux. It also depends on the OS you have used before. If you have used Windows for your desktop PC then you should not think that you should choose Windows for your server as well, because the server and your computer are different. If you have developed your website using asp, asp.net or any Windows based languages then you should choose Windows otherwise Linux is also good. You can choose Linux as an operating system as you do not have to spend much on Linux as it is open source. It also depends on the applications you wish to run on your server. Both the Operating systems have benefits and drawbacks. So it entirely depends on you to choose an operating system for your server.
