Hello Dan,
While we do understand the inconvenience caused in this particular case, we follow this as a policy for all VPS & Dedicated server signups. There are two reasons behind this
1. The need to segregate the genuine signups from the fraudulent ones.
2.To make sure that the clients are genuine & thereby avoid chargebacks once a VPS or a dedicated server has been allocated.
So often we have had signups where the person who has purchased a VPS or a dedicated server is not the card holder himself. Its a card which is invalid OR has been used without the knowledge of the actual owner. In such cases, we have had to bear the brunt of chargebacks, unauthorized charging of credit cards & also credit card privacy violation.
This procedure has been put in place to make sure that the signup has happened with the knowledge of the account (card) holder & its not a fraudulent signup. This does cause some trouble at times (very rarely). But it also helps to confirm that its a genuine buy. In the end, it saves a lot of trouble & anguish for the client as well as WebhostingUK.
I hope this answers your query.
